PROM

This week, my young brother in law had his senior prom. His girlfriend stayed at my house over the weekend with her Mom, making my house the prom zone. I took pictures of the 2 before the headed off to dinner and a fun filled night of dancing.

So this got me to thinking. Wasn't life so simple and fun at that age? I am sure I had struggles and drama at that time in life, but I can't remember what they were. It seems like it was just lake days, school and adventure on the weekends. Now married and with kids I often find myself missing the simplicity that was before all the responsibility of parenting and bills. I wonder if we adults get too caught up in trying to "make it" and we forget what we knew as teenagers, which is 'we only work so that we can have money to do something fun'.

Here's to getting back to the fun in life!

A Day at the Rodeo

This year I decided to challenge myself and my mother by taking my 3 children to the local rodeo for the day. In our small town the annual rodeo gets quite a lot of advertisement and is one of the only events where the majority of the town gathers, which mean there is usually a huge crown of 25 or so people to contend with. Of course it was a challenge packing the weeks worth of supplies and snacks needed for such an adventure, and I preparing 3 extra pale Irish babies for the sun by covering them with generous amounts of sunscreen. But finally we did make it out the door and to the rodeo.

There were fun activities to watch; including mutt-in busting, where some parents of small children subject them to being dragged by a sprinting sheep. Then there were the classics; barrel racing, and bull riding which we greatly enjoyed watching.  There were a couple close calls where I thought we might have to load up for fear of major meltdowns, but we managed to make it through the day with out any catastrophes. The kids enjoyed themselves and got to experience something new. Though exhausted from wrangling the 3 little ones all day, I even managed to enjoy our time and so did my mom.  Though it ended with me realizing I was the only one who never got any sunscreen and I was now burnt to a crisp, it was still a fun day.
